So far, so good! Good very basic skate. They seem to run a bit on the narrow side. Unlike some others, you need to order your actual shoe size to get a proper fit.

We recieived these skates quickly but one skate would always buckle under.
WE could not get through by phone to the company (skate buys)and gave up and took them to a local technician. He said the skates had been
stored improperly by the company (or whoever stores them )and that
is what was causing the buckling. He showed us a way to tie the skates to begin to pull them back into shape.

5Good quality skatesMar 29, 2011

These skates are very good quality and are priced reasonably, a lot cheaper than the shop at my local ice skating rink. They are a bit narrow so I would order a size up. Shipping was fast enough, considering it was free and they arrived in great condition. The padding inside the skates are soft , though the skate takes some time to break in which is normal. I would recommend these skates and Skatebuys.

3Very Basic SkateJan 07, 2012

From the research I've done, these are the most basic of the beginner's figure skates. If you're just starting lessons, or you want something more comfortable than rental skates for public skating sessions, these might work for you. They only come in full sizes, but be aware that if you are serious about skating, you do NOT want to order your shoe size. Figure skates are meant to be worn very snugly. If you have a lot of wiggle room, your feet will slide around while you're performing certain moves, which can lead to painful foot spasms. I normally wear a size 8, but I wear a size 7 in skates. You don't want your toes to touch the ends of the boot, but if it almost touches, you're good. If you have a lot of space, try going down a size.

Pros: These are very inexpensive skates. A lot of skaters swear by Riedells, it's a good brand.

Cons: These are very inexpensive skates. That means the padding is virtually non-existent.

I have a lot of trouble with the ankles, too. My ankle leans back, but the skate boot goes straight, which means the boot cuts into the back of my ankle. It's not so bad when I'm out there skating, because you're supposed to bend your knees, which angles your ankles forward, taking the pressure off the boot. But standing and sitting? Ouch! Even with gel pads to cushion my ankles, it's still painful. I don't have this trouble with Jackson brand skates, so it must be something about the Riedell brand. Also, after about ten minutes of skating, my toes begin to fall asleep. I don't know if that's the skate's fault or if I'm just lacing them too tight, but if I don't lace snugly, my feet wobble within the skates, which isn't safe.

I'll give these skates three stars, because while they are a good basic skate for beginners, they're just not very comfortable.

I use it in ice skating class and it's been really good. But for the shipping fee, I think it quite high relative to the price of the skate.
